Hines, Duncan (1880–1959) publisher, author; born in Bowling Green, Ky. A traveling salesman, he published years' worth of notes in Adventures in Good Eating (1936). This pioneering restaurant guide promoted higher standards of food preparation and hygiene in American restaurants and launched Hines as a guide and cookbook publisher and sponsor of the packaged food products by which he is best remembered.
