Historic Bluff Country Scenic Byway Address: c/o Historic Bluff Country PO Box 609 Harmony, MN 55939 Phone: 800-428-2030; Web: www.bluffcountry.com Description: Following the panoramic Root River Valley to the Mississippi River, byway offers scenic views of Minnesota's rich and rolling farmland and tree-covered bluffs. Most of the byway passes through the Richard J. Dryer Memorial Hardwood Forest, a two-million-acre natural area that offers visitors opportunities for camping, hiking, backpacking, wildlife viewing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Byway also offers access to underground attractions such as Niagara Cave in Harmony and Mystery Cave, which offers spelunking tours. Above Mystery Cave, the Forestville Historic Village portrays several restored period structures from the nineteenth century. Legth: 88 miles. Start/Endpoint: Byway follows SR16 from La Crescent on the Mississippi River west to I-90 near Dexter. Time to Allow: 3 hours. Designation/Year: National Scenic Byway (2002).
