History, Institute of 

a scientific research institution of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR studying the history of the peoples of the USSR and the history of the countries of Europe and of North and South America. The institute was created in 1936 on the basis of the Institute of History of the Communist Academy and the Institute of the Historical Study of Early Texts of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. The Leningrad division of the Institute of History was founded in 1938. In 1968 the institute was divided into the Institute of the History of the USSR and the Institute of World History, both of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.
