Hoffman, Paul (Gray) (1891–1974) industrialist, government official. Starting as a salesman at Studebaker in 1910, he led that company out of bankruptcy in 1935. An economic adviser to President Roosevelt, he later administered the Marshall Plan (1948–50) to speed economic recovery in Europe after World War II. He also led the Ford Foundation (1951–53) and the United Nations Development program (1966–72). How to thank TFD for its existence?
