Hogarth, Arthur Paul
Born Oct. 4, 1917, in Kendal, Westmorland. British graphic artist. A farmer’s son, Hogarth attended art schools in Manchester (from 1934), London, and Paris (1938–39). In 1937 he fought in the International Brigade. During World War II (1939–45), Hogarth emerged as a master of journalistic art, producing mainly drawings and lithographs. His works, executed during his trips throughout Great Britain and many other countries, are marked by a democratic content and a distinctive virtuoso technique.
