Holmes, Donald Fletcher

Holmes, Donald Fletcher (1910–80) chemist, inventor; born in Woodbury, N.J. Educated at Amherst College and the University of Illinois, he and William E. Hanford, a colleague at E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co., developed polyurethane in 1942. He spent his entire career with du Pont, working in the company's textile divisions.
