Holyoke (hō`lē-ōk', hōl`yōk), city (1990 pop. 43,704), Hampden co., S central Mass., on the Connecticut River; settled 1745, inc. 1873. The city has varied manufactures including printed materials, medical supplies, envelopes, metal products, electronic goods, and chemicals. Mt. Holyoke College and a U.S. air force base are nearby.
Holyoke a city in the northeastern USA, in the state of Massachusetts, on the Connecticut River; a northern suburb of Springfield. Population, 46,000 (1975). Holyoke’s industry is represented by machine building (including turbines and other power equipment) and the production of paper and chemicals. There are also enterprises of light industry.
