Homer, Sidney

Homer, Sidney (1902–83) economist, broker, author; born in West Chester, Pa. The son of musicians, he graduated from Harvard in 1923, and, in the midst of the Great Depression, set up his own bond trading house in 1932. He joined Salomon Brothers in 1961, organized the firm's first bond research department, and retired as a partner and chief economist in 1972. He became known as "the Bard of Wall Street" for his colorful treatment of usually dry economic subjects. His History of Interest Rates: 2000 B.C. to the Present appeared in 1963.
