Homogeneous System

a physical system in which the components do not differ from one another in composition or properties and are not separated from one another by surfaces of separation. All the physical characteristics (parameters) of a homogeneous system are either identical in all its components or change continuously from point to point. Microinhomogeneities (of density, composition, and so forth, particularly fluctuating ones) do not disrupt the total homogeneity of a homogeneous system if they are so small that the concepts of temperature, composition, and the like are not applicable. Gas mixtures and solid or liquid solutions are examples of homogeneous systems.
