Special Features: Honeymoon Island is one in the chain of barrier islands that extends from Anclote Key south to Cape Romano. Originally called Hog Island, it became Honeymoon Isle in 1939 when a New York developer built 50 palm-thatched bungalows for honeymooners. Today visitors can enjoy the park's Gulf beaches, mangrove swamps, and tidal flats, as well as one of South Florida's few remaining virgin slash pine forests.
