Honeymoon Island State Park

Location: At the west end of State Route 586, north of Dunedin.
Facilities: Beach, showers, restrooms (é), nature trail, interpretive exhibits, picnic areas, 2 covered pavilions, playground, food concession, kayak rental.
Activities: Saltwater fishing, swimming, shelling, surfing, kayaking, hiking, wildlife viewing, guided tours.
Special Features: Honeymoon Island is one in the chain of barrier islands that extends from Anclote Key south to Cape Romano. Originally called Hog Island, it became Honeymoon Isle in 1939 when a New York developer built 50 palm-thatched bungalows for honeymooners. Today visitors can enjoy the park's Gulf beaches, mangrove swamps, and tidal flats, as well as one of South Florida's few remaining virgin slash pine forests.
