Hook-Type Fishing Gear
implements whose basic component is a fishhook. Gear with one to three hooks is mainly used with fishing rod and lines and with angler spinning rods in sport fishing; gear with many hooks is used with longlines, seines, and trolls in commercial fishing. Hook-type gear may be of the self-catching (bare-hook, snagging) or baited type. The working principle of the self-catching (piercing) fishing gear is the penetration by the sharp hook of the body of the fish upon contact. In the USSR, fishing for sturgeon with multihook tackle is prohibited. Baited fishing gear, which depends on a fish swallowing a hook with bait, is also used. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
