Hoover, Lou (b. Henry) (1874–1944) First Lady; born in Waterloo, Iowa. She was the first woman to major in geology at Stanford, where she met Herbert Hoover. They were married in 1899. Well-educated, and extremely well-traveled, she was popular in 1929–30, but like her husband, she lost much public favor during the Great Depression. How to thank TFD for its existence?
