Hopf, Eberhard
Born Apr. 17, 1902, in Salzburg. German mathematician. Hopf’s principal works deal with the theory of dynamic systems and with partial differential equations. Of particular importance is his monograph Ergodic Theory (Russian translation, in Uspekhi matematicheskikh nauk, 1949, vol. 4, issue 1), which is devoted to the spectral theory of dynamic systems. He has also made contributions to astrophysics.
