Horák, Jiři 

Born Dec. 4, 1884, in Benešov, near Prague. Czech folklorist and literary scholar. Academician of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (1956).

From 1945 to 1948, Horák was the Czechoslovakian ambassador to the USSR. He compiled collections of folk tales, songs, and legends of various Slavic peoples: The Czech Honza (1940), Czech Tales (1944), Czech Legends (1950), Byelorussian Folk Tales and Stories (1957), Slovak Popular Ballads (1958), and Folk Tales and Songs of the Lusatian Serbs (1959). Many of Horák’s works are also about Slavic writers and Slavic scholars.
