House of Councillors 

(Sangi-in), the name of the upper house of the diet of Japan. It is composed of 252 deputies; 152 deputies are elected under the majority system from 46 prefectural constituencies, and 100 are elected from the nation at large, which functions in this case as a kind of national election district. One-half of the membership is elected every three years.
