In the southeastern corner of MN, southeast of Rochester; established Feb 23, 1854 (prior to statehood) from Fillmore County. Name Origin: For Samuel Houston (1793-1863), governor of TN (1827-29), president of the Republic of Texas (1836-38; 1841-44), U.S. senator from TX (1846-59), and TX governor (1859-61).

Area (sq mi): 568.91 (land 558.41; water 10.50). Pop per sq mi: 35.70.
