Born Dec. 4, 1875, in Charlton, in the county of Kent; died Nov. 7, 1960, in Glasgow. British radio engineer.

After graduating from the University of Durham, Howe was an engineer with the firm of Siemens and Schuckert in Germany from 1900 to 1902. From 1905 to 1920, he taught at the Imperial College of Science and Technology in South Kensington. From 1921 to 1946, he was a professor of electrical engineering at the University of Glasgow.

Howe’s works dealt with antenna engineering and radio-wave propagation. Howe developed a method, which was named after him, for calculating the capacitance of long-wave antennas.
