Huainan

Huainan (hwī-nän), city (1994 est. pop. 769,200), N central Anhui prov., China. Established after 1949 as the center of China's chief coal-mining region, it is the site of a major colliery. Chemicals, iron, steel, and machinery are produced, and food and tobacco are processed.

Huainan 

a city in East China, in Anhwei Province, on the Huai Ho. Population, more than 500,000 (1974). Huainan is a mining center in the Huainan Coalfield. The city is connected by rail with the port of Yüch’ik’ou on the Yangtze River. Industry is represented by metallurgy and the production of mining equipment, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, rubber goods, and paper.
