Hubbert, M. (Marion) King (1903–89) geologist; born in San Saba, Texas. He taught geology at Columbia University (1931–41), worked as a researcher and consultant for Shell Oil (1943–63), and became a geophysicist for the U.S. Geological Survey (1964–76) while concurrently serving as a visiting professor at major U.S. universities.
