Hufstedtler, Shirley (Ann) (b. Mount) (1925– ) lawyer; born in Denver, Colo. A champion of civil liberties as a federal appellate judge in California, she served briefly as the first Cabinet-level U.S. Secretary of Education (1979–81) before returning to private practice in Los Angeles.
