Established: 1973.
Location: Kauai's north shore.
Special Features: Refuge protects the largest population of Koloa (Hawaiian ducks) found on Kauai, which may be viewed from the Menehune Fish Pond overlook along Hulemalu Road out of Nawiliwili.
Habitats: 241 acres located in a relatively flat valley bordered by steep wooded hillside.
Access: Not open to the public.
Wild life: Endangered Koloa (Hawaiian ducks), Hawaiian moorhen, Hawaiian coot, and the Hawaiian stilt.

Located in the Huleia National Wildlife Refuge that is a habitat for endangered Hawaiian birds, the fishpond is also known as Menehune Fishpond because legend is that it was built by the mythical menehune (little people) of Hawaii.
