Hund, Friedrich
Born Feb. 4, 1896, in Karlsruhe. German (Federal Republic of German) physicist. Member of the Leopoldine Academy (1943) and the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen (1958). A student of M. Born, Hund graduated from the University of Göttingen in 1922. Beginning in 1925. he taught at the University of Göttingen. From 1929 to 1946 he was a professor at the University of Leipzig, from 1946 to 1951 at the University of Jena, from 1951 to 1956 at the University of Frankfurt am Main, and from 1956 at the University of Göttingen. His principal works are on quantum mechanics, spectroscopy (the classification of atomic and molecular spectra), and magnetism. WORKSLinienspektren und periodisches System der Elemente.
