Hunt, Ward

Hunt, Ward (1810–86) Supreme Court justice; born in Utica, N.Y. He served on the New York state legislature (1838) and as mayor of Utica (1844). An early Republican Party organizer, he was elected to the U.S. Court of Appeals (1865–72) and was appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court by President Grant (1873–82).
