This merged with the county to the west under the Local Government Act of 1972, Huntingdon and Peterborough (which itself was created in 1965 after the merger of Huntingdonshire & the Soke of Peterborough - previously it was this part which had its own county council & was called Northamptonshire).
Damaged overhead lines between Huntingdon and Peterborough caused severe disruption to GNER services yesterday afternoon and evening.
Rex had already taken over his grandfather's seat on Maxey Parish Council in 1952, and became a County Councillor in 1970 when he won the then seat for Northborough on Huntingdon and Peterborough County Council.
