In central SD, east of Pierre; created Jan 8, 1873 (prior to statehood) from Buffalo County. Name Origin: For James Hyde (1842-1902), Civil War prisoner of war at Andersonville and Dakota territorial legislator.

Pop 2005: 1,614. State rank: 62. Pop change: 2000-20005 -3.40%; 1990-2000 -1.50%. Pop 2000: 1,671 (White 90.90%; Black or African American 0.10%; Hispanic or Latino 0.50%; Asian 0.00%; Other 8.80%). Foreign born: 0.30%. Median age: 42.20.
Income 2000: per capita $16,356; median household $31,103; Pop below poverty level: 12.30%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $22,366-$24,987.

On the central eastern shore of NC on Pamlico Sound, northeast of Jacksonville; organized Dec 3, 1705 (prior to statehood) as Wickham Precinct of Bath District; name changed in 1712. Name Origin: Either for Edward Hyde (1661-1723), 3rd Earl of Clarendon, a colonial governor of NJ and NY (1701-08); or for Edward Hyde (1650-1712), deputy governor, acting governor, and governor of NC (1709-12). Originally for the manor home of the Archdale family in Buckinghamshire, England.
