The pupils were able to see the original lamps powered by hydro-electricity which are still in the library at Cragside.
The rewiring work is part of a pounds 6m regeneration project and the National Trust, which owns Cragside, is keen to raise funds for the next phase of a hydro-electricity project that will involve installing a modern water-powered turbine ( thought to be the first created in more than a century ( to bring hydro-electricity back to the estate.
According to the law, renewable energy includes hydro-electricity, wind power, solar energy, geothermal energy and marine energy.
