Hydrodictyon

Also found in: Wikipedia 0.01 sec.
Hydrodictyon

a genus of freshwater green algae of the order Protococcales. There is only one species in the USSR, H. reticulatum. The thallus is about 1 m long, and the plant resembles a free-floating saccular net. The sides of the loops are formed by separate multinuclear cells about 1.5 cm long. In asexual reproduction the zoospores (there are as many as 20,000 in a single cell), which are in the maternal cell, develop into a new net. The sexual process is isogamous.
