Hypertrophy, Regenerative

The part of an organ left after amputation enlarges as a result of cell division (hyperplasia), and the size of the cells increases (hypertrophy). Hence, the size and function of the organ are restored, but the shape remains distorted. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
