Hypsicles of Alexandria (hĭp`sĭklēz), astronomer of ancient Greece. Some authorities place Hypsicles in the 2d cent. B.C. and some in the 2d cent. A.D. The 14th and 15th books of Euclid's Elements, which discuss regular many-sided solids, are attributed to him. His other works include a short treatise on astronomy that introduces the division of the circle into multiples of sixty. |
