(Information Engineering Facility) A fully integrated set of CASE tools from Sterling Software that runs on PCs and MVS mainframes. It generates COBOL code for PCs, MVS mainframes, VMS, Tandem, AIX, HP-UX and other Unix platforms. IEF was developed by TI and later renamed Composer. It was acquired by Sterling Software in 1997 and renamed COOL:Gen. When Computer Associates acquired Sterling a few years later, it continued the product under the name "Advantage GEN for Enterprise Servers." See COOL.
