IJmuiden (īmoi`dən), city (1991 est. pop. 58,000), North Holland prov., W Netherlands, on the North Sea. It is part of the municipality of Velsen Velsen (vĕl`sən), city (1994 pop. 63,617), North Holland prov., W Netherlands, near the mouth of the North Sea Canal.

Carbon steel costs for 2002 were adversely affected by the impact of blast furnace outages at IJmuiden and Port Talbot.
