IP services switch

    0.04 sec.

IP services switch

A network switch that funnels traffic from DSL and/or cable modem aggregation devices to various carriers' networks based on type of application or type of service required. It supports authentication, traffic accounting, high-level protocols such as IP and MPLS.

An IP services switch lets carriers fine tune their service offerings as well as charge for traffic on a per-byte basis. Also known as an "IP services router," it is the successor to the broadband remote access server (BRAS) and supports greater bandwidth and more functionality such as support for the IPsec security protocol.
