(1) A packet filter that analyzes TCP/IP packets. See packet filter.

(2) (IP Filter) An open source utility developed by Darren Reed and other contributors that provides network address translation (NAT) and firewall services. It runs under various versions of Unix.

It provides IP filters for WiFi, UMTS, GPRS, Bluetooth, and USB, protecting mobile appliances in two directions: a filter package monitors both sent and received data.

In addition the new version features SSH upload capabilities, allowing administrators to build a secure connection between their administration machine and filtering devices for the upload of their configuration, such as log-in, password and IP filter files.
