IP network

Also found in: Wikipedia 0.02 sec.

IP network

A network that uses the IP protocol, which is part of the TCP/IP protocol suite. IP has become the global standard for networking, which includes the entire Internet, private LANs and many of the data and voice networks of the carriers. Any network that has not migrated to the IP protocol is considered a "legacy network." Today, Windows PCs default to the TCP/IP protocol and include NetBIOS over TCP/IP, which integrates with the original system for naming machines on a network. See TCP/IP and legacy network.
