IPv6(Internet Protocol Version 6) The next generation IP protocol. Started in 1991, the specification was completed in 1997 by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). IPv6 is backward compatible with and is designed to fix the shortcomings of IPv4, such as data security and maximum number of user addresses.

In addition to 128-bit addressing, other benefits of IP v6 include a revised IP mobility layer that makes session management more dependable for wireless users moving between different IP networks. At its commercial launch in March 2005, OnDemand TV became the world's first on-demand service delivered over IP v6 fiber optic networks, taking full advantage of the SeaChange IPTV System's capabilities for delivering multiple media formats and bit rates. The OnDemand TV service will be one of the first commercial launches of VOD over IP v6 networks. |
