iPod touch

Also found in: Acronyms, Wikipedia 0.01 sec.

iPod touch

A flash-based iPod from Apple that was modeled after the iPhone. It is essentially a thinner iPhone without the phone capability and uses a touch screen for navigation rather than the illustrious click wheel that made the first iPods so popular. Like the iPhone, there is only one physical button on the front of the device. Introduced in 2007, the first models came with 8GB and 16GB of flash memory, with an increase to 32GB in early 2008. Later in 2008, the thinner second generation touch added a speaker and physical volume control along with increased battery life and an improved user interface.

iPod touch Features
Along with music, videos and photos, the touch includes a calendar, calculator and contact list as well as e-mail and Web browsing via Wi-Fi. The main menu also includes an icon for going directly to YouTube. Users can purchase songs on the road via the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store as well as at Starbucks coffee shops. Version 2.0 of the operating system, available since July 2008, turned the iPod touch into a mobile computer (see App Store). See iPod and iPhone.
