IXS

(Integrated XSeries Server) An x86-based xSeries server (motherboard and memory) from IBM that plugs into an iSeries or i5 midrange computer. Running Windows or Linux, the IXS shares disk storage, server management, user administration with its iSeries/i5 host. It becomes an x86 server with the advantage of backup and restore capabilities and faster disk storage.

The IXA (Integrated xSeries Adapter) is an option that enables the attachment of up to 60 x86 systems, each with up to eight processors.

Alphabet Soup Evolution (FSIOP, IPCS, INS, IXS)
The IXS started life in the days of the 486 CPU as the FSIOP (File Server I/O Processor) and evolved into the IPCS (Integrated PC Server), the INS (Integrated Netfinity Server) and subsequently the IXS. See i5 and iSeries.
