Talts, Iaan Augustovich
(Yan Talts). Born May 19, 1944, in Massiaru, Pärnu Raion, Estonian SSR. Soviet weight lifter and teacher. Honored Master of Sports (1969). Member of the CPSU since 1974. Talts won a gold medal in weight lifting at the 1972 Olympic Games. He has held the world record (1969–70), the European record (1968–70 and 1972), and the USSR record (1967–68 and 1972) in the heavyweight and middle-heavyweight categories.
