Ianovskii, Mikhail Iosifovich
Born May 27 (June 8), 1888, in Novgorod; died July 14, 1949, in Leningrad. Soviet specialist in marine-turbine design. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1943). A graduate of the Naval Academy, Ianovskii worked as a design engineer from 1924 to 1927 and taught at the Naval Academy from 1927 to 1949. He was named a professor there in 1935. Ianovskii’s principal works dealt with the theory and design of steam and gas turbines, especially those with marine applications. He developed a method for designing high-speed rotating disks, impellers, and other turbine parts. Ianovskii received the State Prize of the USSR in 1949; he was awarded the Order of Lenin, four other orders, and various medals. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
