Ianysh Ialkaevich Ialkain

Ialkain, Ianysh Ialkaevich 

(also Ia. Ia. Ialkaev). Born Oct. 25, 1906, in the village of Churaevo, in what is now Mishkino Raion, Bashkir ASSR; died May 23, 1943. Soviet Mari writer.

Ialkain was the author of collections of verses and narrative poems, short stories, and novellas. In addition to the collections Andrei Tolkyn (1934), Unripe (1936), and The City (1936), he wrote the novel The Circle (book 1, 1937), which dealt primarily with the development of the revolution and the establishment of Soviet power in Bashkiria. Ialkain was an associate of M. Gorky, with whom he corresponded. Several of Ialkain’s works have been translated into other languages of the USSR.
