Iasinskii, Anton Nikitich

Iasinskii, Anton Nikitich 

Born Sept. 22 (Oct. 4), 1864, in Mezhirich, in what is now Cherkassy Oblast; died Nov. 13, 1933, in Moscow. Soviet medievalist. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR (1928); member of the Czech Academy of Sciences and Arts (1907).

Iasinskii graduated from the faculty of history and philology at the University of Kiev in 1888. His principal works were devoted to the history of medieval Bohemia. He held that Bohemia had an independent socioeconomic development and that German colonization had a negative influence on the territory. Iaşinskii also studied medieval Russia and Western Europe, as well as questions of pedagogy.
