Ibarruri, Dolores (ē`băr rē), 1895–1989, Spanish political leader. A founder of the Spanish Communist party, she wrote in several Communist newspapers under the pseudonym "La Pasionaria" ("the passion flower"). She became a living legend during the Spanish civil war Spanish civil war, 1936–39, conflict in which the conservative and traditionalist forces in Spain rose against and finally overthrew the second Spanish republic......
