Ibn Badrun, Abu Marwan Abd Al-Malik

    0.01 sec.
Ibn Badrun, Abu Marwan Abd Al-Malik

Birthdate unknown; died 1211. Arab poet and historian.

Ibn Badrun was born in Silves, Portugal, and lived in Seville at the court of Abu Yakub Yusuf Almohad (1163–84). His commentary to the prose and poetic qasida of Ibn Abdun (who died in 1134), Cup of the Flower and Shell of the Pearl, survived. He cites many historical sources, most of which are lost. The commentary pictures in detail the life and customs of the time. Ibn Badrun was frequently quoted by later Arab authors.
