Galagan, Ignatii Ivanovich
Died 1748. A big landowner and a representative of the starshina (elite group) of the Left-bank Ukraine. In 1706, as a Zaporozhian colonel, he served with a cossack detachment on the Russian side against the Swedes. Subsequently he served as a colonel under Mazeppa and joined him in going over to the side of Charles XII, but he soon returned. He took part in the destruction of Zaporozhian Sech, in the campaign against Derbent in 1722, and in the Polish campaign of 1733. He retired from military service in 1739.
