Gavrilov, Ignatii Gavrilovich
Born March 17 (30), 1912, in the village of Bol’shie Siby, now Mozhga Raion, Udmurt ASSR. Udmurt Soviet poet and playwright; Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1958). Member of the CPSU since 1940. Participant in the Great Patriotic War. Gavrilov’s work was first published in 1927. He is the author of the collection Verses (1937); the plays The River Vala Murmurs (1931), Cold Spring (1934), Heroes (1936), Blue Eyes (1940), Azin (1940), and Annok (1954); and the novel In Our Native Land (books 1-3, 1958-63); all of these dealt with the growth of the native Udmurt intelligentsia. He published the novella In the Far Brigade (1970) and the comedy Clear Autumn. Gavrilov translates the classics of Russian and European drama. Awarded three orders and medals.
