Igor Vladimirovich Luchitskii

Luchitskii, Igor’ Vladimirovich 

Born Apr. 10 (23), 1912, in Warsaw. Soviet geologist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1968). Member of the CPSU since 1971. Son of V. I. Luchitskii.

Luchitskii graduated from the Moscow Institute of Geological Research in 1936. From 1937 to 1949 he worked at the Institute of Geological Sciences of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and from 1949 until 1962 he was employed by the Geological Administration of Eniseistroi and the Mining Geology Institute of the West Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In 1962 he became head of the laboratory of experimental tectonics at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In 1964 he became a professor at the University of Novosibirsk. Luchitskii’s principal works have dealt with paleovolcanology, tectonics, tectonophysics, and the modeling of tectonic processes. He has carried out geological research in eastern Transbaikalia, Krasnoiarsk Krai, Irkutsk Oblast, and the mountains of Southern Siberia. He substantiated the importance of the nepheline ores of the Kuznetsk Alatau for the construction of the Krasnoiarsk Aluminum Combine. Luchitskii has been awarded two orders as well as various medals.
