Iius, Belyi and Chernyi 

(White and Black Iius), two rivers in Khakass Autonomous Oblast, Krasnoiarsk Krai, RSFSR. The Belyi Iius (Pikhterek) is 224 km long and has abasin area of 5, 370 sq km, and the Chernyi Iius is 178 km longand has a basin area of 4, 290 sq km. Both rivers originate on theeastern slopes of the Kuznetsk Alatau. On their upper reaches, both are swift mountain rivers; lower down, they flow across thehilly steppes on the western edge of the Chulym-Enisei basin.They are fed chiefly by melting snow. The average annual rateof flow on the Belyi Iius, 55 km from its mouth, is 41 cu m persec. Both rivers are used to float logs. The two rivers eventuallyflow together to form the Chulym River, a right tributary of theOb’.
