IJmuiden (īmoi`dən), city (1991 est. pop. 58,000), North Holland prov., W Netherlands, on the North Sea. It is part of the municipality of Velsen Velsen , city (1994 pop. 63,617), North Holland prov., W Netherlands, near the mouth of the North Sea Canal. It includes the port of IJmuiden. Paper is a major manufacture, and agriculture (dairying, cattle, fruit, vegetables, flowers) is important.

Ijmuiden 

a city and port in The Netherlands, in the province of North Holland; situated on the North Sea. IJmuiden is the outer port of Amsterdam, with which it is connected by the North Sea (Amsterdam) Canal. It is part of the Amsterdam conurbation. IJmuiden is a center for ferrous metallurgy and has enterprises of the chemical and cement industries.
