Ilfov
a district in southern Rumania, in the Danube basin. Area, 8,200 sq km. In 1970 the population was 797,300, not including Bucharest, which is the administrative center of the district and forms a separate administrative unit. The district is on the Walachian Plain. Ilfov District has intensive agriculture, specializing mainly in supplying the capital with food and agricultural raw materials; suburban agriculture, such as truck farming, horticulture, and dairy animal husbandry; and large plantings of grain crops (wheat, corn, barley, and rice), sugar beets, and sunflowers.
