Ilic, Vojislav

    0.02 sec.
Ilić, Vojislav

Born Apr. 4, 1862, in Belgrade; died there Jan. 21, 1894. Serbian poet; son of J. Ilic.

Three collections of poems were published during V. Ilic’s lifetime. As a writer of political satire and lyric poetry on civic themes, he followed the best traditions of Serbian democratic poetry. He was persecuted by the authorities for his harsh criticism of the police and bureaucratic regime. Ilic’s lyric poetry of the early 1890’s was marked by a subjective philosophic mood. On the whole, his poetry tended toward classical clarity, harmonious rhythms, and musicality. His poems about nature are among the best examples of Serbian lyric poetry.

WORKS

Sabrana dela, vols. 1–2. Belgrade, 1961.
